Liebster Award

We are really excited to be nominated for the Liebster Award by fellow travel blogger Heather from Conversant Traveller

While it is not it’s not an actual ‘award’, it is a great networking game played between newish travel bloggers in recognition of their mission to add their two-cents worth to the travel scene. 

The Rules of the Game are simple:

 Thank the blogger who has nominated you (obviously!)
 Answer their questions
 Nominate 10 other travel bloggers (ideally those with under 600 followers, likes, whatever you want to call them)

P1170905 (2)

 Ask them 10 questions
Heather gave me some questions to answer, so here goes:
1) What one item do you never travel without?

My credit card I always thing if there is some sort of emergency I can do whatever I need with that.

2) What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten?

I will hand this one to Ron, he is the adventurous eater of the blog. He has enjoyed deep fried crickets and silkworms…the worst thing was during a cooking course in Vietnam where he was urged to try a cooked fertilised duck egg, it looked disgusting as there were feathers etc included and his reaction told me it was pretty bad too

3) If you had to choose a country to live in, which would it be, and why?

While I love travelling I would still live in Australia on a permanent basis, I love the relaxed lifestyle, beaches and the weather.

4) What’s the most frightening/embarrassing experience you’ve ever had?

Luckily for us we have not had anything really scary happen to us on our travels. Maybe the clothes smugglers who were on our train form Mongolia to Russia gave us a bit of a scare more so as they wanted to hide their clothes in our beds and I had visions of us being arrested and dragged off the train but it seems the customs department are blind in Russia and saw nothing.

5) Beach, Mountain or Jungle?

I love the beach but enjoy the others as well

6) Who or what inspires you to travel?

We are part of couch surfing and many of the people we have hosted are on amazing adventures so they inspire us to travel and explore the world.

7) Favourite souvenir?

As we travel with carryon only (roughly 8kgs) we do not normally buy souvenirs.

8) If you could have dinner with anyone you like (dead or alive) who would it be, and why?

This is a hard one but I think I would like to have dinner with my Dad, he died leaving many unanswered questions and I would like to talk to him about it all.

9) Where’s the first place you ever travelled?

My first holiday I remember was a camping holiday with my family. We went to Auckland and Taupo in New Zealand. Mum saved for months buying petrol vouchers and food for us to take.

10) What one piece of advice would you give to fellow travellers?

Travel your own path, there is no ‘right way’ to travel. Enjoy the journey and enjoy the experiences you have they are what you will remember not the things you see.

OK, now for the fun part. I get to nominate 10 other bloggers to participate, it gave me a great opportunity to look and see what new and not so new blogs were out there and I found 10 listed below to nominate. I hope you enjoy their blogs too 🙂

Tracey from Life Changing Year

Jasmine and Barnaby from Time Rich Travelers

Diane and Michael from Wife With Baggage

Jeff from Latitude Thirty Four

Robb & Marie-Carmen from Orient Excess

Jaryd from  Aus Globe Trotter

Kris and Tom from Travel Past Fifty

Lesh and Jazza from Nomadasaurus

Peter and Lindsay from Where Is Your Toothbrush

Tommo and Megsy from Five Dollar Traveller

And they have to answer (only if they wish to!) my questions:
1) What is your favourite hidden gem?
2) What’s your most unusual travelling experience?
3) If you had to choose a country to live in, which would it be, and why?
4) What’s the most frightening/embarrassing experience you’ve ever had?
5) Beach, Mountain or Jungle?
6) Who or what inspires you to travel?
7) Favourite food you have found while travelling?
8) If you could have dinner with anyone you like (dead or alive) who would it be, and why?
9) Where’s the first place you ever travelled outside your home country?
10) What one piece of advice would you give to fellow travellers?

  1. Even if it is not an actual award, your blog would deserve an actual one for the interesting places you show us off the beaten path! Congrats and keep up with the good work!

  2. Hope you had as much fun doing this as I did, you’ve certainly got some stories to tell…and clothes smuggling has to be just about the oddest contraband ever 🙂

  3. Hey thanks for tagging us! We’ll definitely take up the challenge and post the answers to your questions some time next week. Can’t wait to check out all the links to the other blogs too – I’ve only ever heard of a couple of them so it will be great to find some fresh meat! lol

  4. I enjoyed participating in this last year. It was a great way to learn and see new travel bloggers that I would be able to connect with and follow their journeys.

  5. Thanks for the nomination guys! I really need to look into this later!
The fertilised duck egg sounds pretty grimm… Well done to Ron for trying this!

  6. Congratulations, an award is still an award and if the peoples choice, usually means more in my book anyway 😉 – i love that you only travel with hand luggage, that’s impressive.

  7. Congratulations on the nomination. I agree with the Vietnamese fertilized duck egg! I saw friends try it and their face said everything. It looks disgusting and probably tastes disgusting.
