Christmas Celebrations

As we sit here in Perth getting ready to celebrate Christmas, we are heading towards a few pretty hot days around 38 degrees centigrade. This is a little hotter than normal for Perth at this time of the year but a huge change from this time last year when we were in Germany.

We had a wonderful time catching up with past couch surfers, exploring towns and cities, sampling the cuisine and of course taking in the amazing Christkindlmarkt ( Advent Markets). It really was a special time full of unique memories.

Christmas in Australia

In Australia we open our presents on Christmas morning and this is followed by a huge meal then a visit to the beach and a game of cricket. This year we will be celebrating our last Christmas at home with our children for a few years, under the pergola surrounded by extended family, we will have cold meats, seafood and salads followed by Pavlova and trifle. This said many in Australia still have the traditional roast turkey and vegetables no matter the weather.

This is starkly different to last year where we were in Bruges, they have their big celebration on December 24th so on the 25th it was business as usual, most shops were open, tours were running which seemed very strange to us. We spent the morning at the Bruges Ice Sculpture Festival then the rest of the day wandering around Bruges…..we even forgot to have our Lunch 🙂

Wherever you are in the world may your celebrations be  full of joy and peace.

Please feel free to share your celebrations with us, we would love to hear from you
